The Aus workshops are presented at Klein-Aus Vista, a lodge that is part of the Gondwana Collection.
The lodge is situated on a 55 000ha private nature reserve on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the Namib-Naukluft and Sperrgebiett National Parks.
The area abounds with stark desert landscapes and massive sweeping vistas. One of the main attractions at Aus is the wild horses which roam the Namib-Naukluft Park. Watching and photographing them in this vast landscape is a deeply emotional experience, the visual contradiction of power and grace a powerful symbol of survival against all odds.
Birds and other mammals are plentiful and one day is spent in the concession area of the park along the Koichab River which separates the hard desert from the red dunes so characteristic of the Namib.
Another day is spent in the ghost town of Kolmanskop and along the rugged shoreline of historic Lüderitz, an easy 1 hour drive away.
The 2013 workshop will be presented from 26 May to 1 June.
The costs for the Aus workshop are R9,900 (sharing) and R11,000 (single rooms) Workshop fees include lectures and outings, accommodation and all meals and teas, photography permits for Kolmanskop and access permits and a guide into the Namib-Naukluft Park concession area.
